Experiencing a Loss in Sex Drive? Votiva Can Help

Votiva, women’s sexual health, vaginal health

While there are many reasons why women experience a loss in sex drive, chief among them is declining vaginal health. From vaginal dryness and thinning tissue to vaginal laxity and loss of sensitivity, the health of your vaginal lining plays a central role in your ability to enjoy a happy and active sex life. With our Votiva® system, we can address these concerns without resorting to surgery or messy ointments.

At our practice, Dr. Jennifer C. Brooks and our team are on a mission to provide women in the Fort Worth, Texas, area with the tools they need to feel great, from the inside out. For far too long, issues concerning women’s sexual health have been swept under the carpet while men benefitted from little blue pills and more. Now we have our own arsenal that specifically addresses a woman’s unique needs..

If you’re experiencing a loss in sex drive because of poor vaginal health, here’s how we can help with Votiva.

The problem

There are many reasons why women experience a decline in vaginal health, with menopause and childbirth leading the charge.

In the first — perimenopause and menopause — the effects of the drop in the hormone estrogen can cast a wide net over your health, creating problems that range from hot flashes to vaginal dryness. Estrogen is responsible for your sexual health, and as part of that mandate it ensures that your vaginal tissue is healthy and lubricated to encourage comfortable intercourse and childbearing.

As your estrogen begins to wane, your vaginal tissue loses valuable resources (collagen, as an example), which leads to thinning tissue, sluggish circulation, and a loss of lubrication. In fact, more than 50% of women between the ages of 51 and 60 report problems with vaginal dryness.

But menopause isn’t the only culprit behind poor vaginal health. Childbirth can also cause problems, namely vaginal laxity. The act of delivering a child can stretch your tissue beyond its limits, both internally and externally, and for some women the tissue doesn’t bounce back.

While menopause and childbirth are the primary drivers behind poor vaginal health, certain treatments, such as chemotherapy, can also lead to problems like vaginal dryness.

The solution

Votiva is an innovative solution in which we deliver radiofrequency energy into your tissue, without harming the surface area, to improve mucosal secretions and stimulate collagen production. By deep heating your tissue, we encourage tissue remodeling that tightens and strengthens your vaginal walls. The radiofrequency energy also encourages better blood flow, which helps restore your tissue and improve your sensitivity.

We can also use Votiva on your external genitalia to help tighten a sagging labia, which can be an uncomfortable and unsightly problem for many women.

The process

Most of our patients undergo 2-3 Votiva treatments, which we space apart by 3-4 weeks to allow time for your tissue to remodel itself. Each treatment lasts only 10-25 minutes and there’s no downtime afterward, which means you’re free to go about your day. However, we do ask that you refrain from intercourse for a week after each treatment.

Votiva features a temperature control for your comfort, so you should only feel a mild warming sensation. Most of our patients tolerate the noninvasive treatments very well.

Your results will be gradual as you progress through your Votiva sessions, with optimal results becoming evident 6-12 weeks after your final visit. You should be able to maintain these results if you return for an annual touch-up to ensure that your tissue is still receiving the resources it needs.

If you want to take charge of your sex life, please give us a call to schedule your Votiva treatments. Or you can use the online scheduling tool to set up a consultation.
