Do pellets have the same danger of breast cancer as other forms of hormone replacement?

Pellets do not have the same risk of breast cancer as high doses of oral estrogens, like Premarin, that do not maintain the correct estrogen ration or hormone metabolites. Nor do pellets increase the risk of breast cancer like the synthetic, chemical progestins used in the Women's Health Initiative Trial. In fact, data supports that balanced hormones are breast protective.

What can I expect after pellet insertion?

After pellets are inserted, patients may notice overall improvement in mental, physical, emotional and sexual health.

  • Increase in energy, muscle mass and bone density
  • Increased strength, coordination and physical performance
  • Improvement in memory and concentration
  • Improvement in skin tone and hair texture
  • Better sleep and sleep quality
  • Decrease in fatty tissue

How soon will I feel the effects of the pellets?

Some patient begin to "feel better" within 24-48 hours while other may take a week or two to notice a difference.

How long do the pellets last?

The pellets usually last 3-5 months in woman and 5-6 in men. High levels of stress, physical activity, some medications and lack of sleep my increase the rate at which the pellet absorb and may require that pellets are inserted sooner in some patients.

Why are pellets optimal for hormone replacement?

Pellets deliver consistent, healthy levels of hormones for 3-6 months; avoiding the fluctuations, or ups and downs, of hormone levels seen with every other method of delivery. It is the fluctuation in hormone levels that causes many of the unwanted side effects and symptons patients experience. In studies, when compared to conventional hormone replacement therapy, pellets have been shown to be superior for relief of menopausal symptoms, maintenance of bone density, resotration of sleep patterns, improved sex drive, libido, sexual response and performance. Even patients who have failed other types of hormone therapy have a very high success rate with pellets. In addition, there is not other method of hormone delivery that is as concenient for the patient as pellets.

How does the the therapy work?

Once your dose has been calculated, the tiny pellets are slipped painlessly under the skin, typically in the hip. A mild local anesthetic is used and the procedure takes less than five minutes. Once the pellets are inserted, a steady low dose of natural hormone flows directly into the blood stream whenever the body needs it. The body can then control the release of the hormone just as it did when the ovaries or testicles were working normally.

How do I know if I am a candidate for pellets?

Some of the symptoms you might be experiencing might include excessive weight gain, low libido or sex drive, mood swings, insomnia or trouble sleeping, depression, and or irritability. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms you might be a candidate for BHRT pellet therapy.
